How It Works

Welcome to the National Doula Registry(NDR)! This registry is a system set up for Doulas, Women seeking Doulas, and Friends and Family of the Registered Mothers across the country.
  • As a doula registered with the NDR, you will be listed under your state of residence where you will be easily accessible to local, potential clients searching for a doula. Register Now
  • As a woman seeking a doula, the NDR is set up for you to easily find a doula near you. Once you have found and contacted the doula who will be supporting you, we invite you to come back and create your registry
  • For Family and Friends of expecting mothers, we encourage you to support your loved ones by giving the gift of labor support. To make any kind of donation, be it general to the NDR, for a specific doula, or specific for a special mother, click here!
Birth doulas provide emotional support, physical comfort, information to assist decision-making, and non-medical support that moms and families need during pregnancy and the birth of a baby. Doulas stay at the woman's side throughout her entire labor and birth offering back rubs, positioning suggestions, an encouraging word, and information about decisions she will make. They are also there to support her coach, partner, family, and friends.

When a doula is present during and after childbirth, women report greater satisfaction with their birth experience, make more positive assessments of their babies, have fewer cesareans and requests for medical intervention, and less postpartum depression. Studies have shown that babies born with doulas present tend to have shorter hospital stays with fewer admissions to special care nurseries, breastfeed more easily, and have more affectionate mothers in the postpartum period.
