Not Just One Day... A Relationship

At six months pregnant, I was starting to prepare, mentally and emotionally, for my first birth experience. No one I knew had worked through pregnancy, childbirth and new motherhood with the support of a doula. But, to me, it just sounded like the right thing to do. It was. And, I couldn’t be more confident that my husband and I made the best decision by choosing to work with Whatadoula.

Prior to our experience with Whatadoula, I had assumed that the doula’s role was to provide me with moral support through the physical aspects of childbirth – to help me through one, albeit very important, day. Which, I assure you, IS true! Lisa was my rock during the actual event. But, what you get with Whatadoula is not just one day. You get a relationship. From the very beginning, Lisa and Cathy took time to get to know us and to understand what kind of family we are and wanted to be. This formed a foundation that certainly was invaluable when faced with the unknowns of first time childbirth. But, more importantly, for us, that foundation has carried beyond the delivery room. They were there for me during the early days of motherhood when I had even more questions and was in need of a confidence boost. They keep up with the growth of our baby girl and we keep up with what’s going on in their lives. In fact, just today, I stopped by Lisa’s house to catch up. We didn’t have an “appointment,” we have a relationship. And, I’m certain that this is what sets Whatadoula apart.

All the best to you and yours, Anne,
